HELP US
SOSAD Ireland is a registered charity based in Drogheda, Navan, Dundalk and Cavan. (CHY 17866). All the services we provide are run by volunteers and, as we grow, we are always looking for more people to give us some of their valuable time. The 'What we do' page describes exactly what we do and how we do it.
All our suicide interventions, counselling and bereavement support, as well as all the important office work is carried out by volunteers who bring their experiences and skills to help SOSAD help those who need it. To put it simply SOSAD relies totally on the goodwill and support of our 300 volunteers, but we still need more and would love to hear from you.
If you think that you have what it takes, and have a bit of time to spare, please contact Peter on 041 9848754. In particular we are looking for counsellors, bereavement counsellors and bereavement group facilitators with some experience dealing with suicide as well as admin or office staff.
As you have seen, SOSAD now has branches in Drogheda, Navan, Dundalk and Cavan and we will be opening a new outreach branch in Kingscourt Cavan in October. As well as growing in size, SOSAD is getting busier and busier every month. Thankfully we have managed to ensure that everyone who has called us got the professional help and support they deserve, but we need to ensure that we continue to be ready and available to deal with every call so we need more help.
SOSAD does not receive any public funding whatsoever as the Government and National Office for Suicide Prevention think that we are not 'nationally relevant', even though we take calls for help from all over the country, and even abroad. This means that we rely totally on donations and the fundraising efforts of others to ensure our survival, and so far the support we have received has been phenomenal. People are so kind and generous, even in these though economic times. Lots of people have organised their own events for SOSAD and we hope that this continues. Many others have supported SOSAD organised events such as the mini marathon, the SOSAD Fashion Show and the SOSAD Dinner Dance and we fully appreciate their support.
If you think that you can help us out in any way at all, please get in touch and we will support you in every way we can. Alternatively keep an eye out for forthcoming events and help us out that way.
Thanks to everyone who has done anything to raise funds for us, and to all those who have made donations. Your help and support is greatly appreciated and if we ever can be of help to you, please let us know.
